Today is my last long run before the half marathon in 2 weeks. My plan instructed me to run 14 miles. I think the idea is that you tend to hit the wall a couple of miles before the longest distance you have trained up to, so if you train a little bit more miles than the race you won’t hit the wall.

Things seem to be all healed up and I felt really good.

For the next two weeks I am going to add in my usual cross training on my non-running days so I can be in top shape for the race.

I saw a raven as  I started the cool down walk back home. It looked like a huge crow, so that’s the only way I know it was a raven. It was really cool! I hope it’s an auspicious sign. I will take it as an auspicious sign, because I love ravens.

My power song today was “Dis Generation” by a Tribe Called Quest. I love that song and have been listening it a lot lately. It’s got an amazing groove and the poetry is awesome.

I am happy to report that I was able to run today! My injury is healing up and I am in significantly less pain. Actually, the pain is pretty much gone. I’m still healing but I am so relieved to not be in excruciating pain anymore. Today’s scheduled run was 4 miles and I took it very slow today. And also, as a related aside, I’m thinking about purchasing a running bra called “The Last Resort.” For reasons.

Today’s power song was not as much a power song, but more a nice happy grove. It was De La Soul’s Eye Know.

Today I ran a very painful 12 miles. I mentioned earlier this week about an injury. I was very tempted to just skip my run today because, holy fuck, this injury is fucking painful. Basically, my running bra has caused a blister which has caused an abscess.  This exact thing happened last year and it sucked then too. However, last year it happened earlier in my training. This year it’s happening at a key point in my training when I can’t really take much of a break. So I sucked it up and just fucking did that motherfucker. And it fucking hurt. I ran it reeeeallly slow. But ended up, still, in “the plan’s” slower end of the recommended running pace. So there you go.  Tonight I’m eating pizza and drinking beer because I deserve it.

Today’s scheduled run was a 3 miler, but I decided to do my favorite 4.5 mile run instead. It was a glorius day for a run. Nice and cool and we finally got some rain!! All of the wildfire smoke has cleared out and I was able to breath. I was a bit speedier on my splits, which was nice for the ego.

I signed up for Strava.  (If you are there come and find me!) I am still finding my way around over there. I like some things about it but there are some concerns. I tried using it with my Apple Watch but couldn’t get it to work, which is frustrating. I used the activity app on my watch and ran Strava on my phone at the same time, which is kind of annoying.  However, I really like some of the analytics that I get with Strava that I don’t get with Apple Watch. And I like the social aspect as well.

One of the biggest concerns is safety. I gives your contacts access to your running routes, and I’m not sure I feel comfortable with that. But is that something that I should really be concerned about? I’d like to know your thoughts about it.

Today’s power song was Beez In The Trap by Niki Minaj. Oddly, I heard this song twice during my run, in the same place, at the beginning and at the end of my run. Weird!

Somehow I messed up my training plan and realized I was nowhere near where I am supposed to be, milage-wise, by the time my half-marathon rolls around in September. My husband suggested I add 2 miles to each long run and that would add up to the right milage I’m supposed to be at. I found myself staring a 10.5 mile run in the face this morning. Ugh. But I did it. go me! I’m tired though.

today’s power song was Billy Idol’s, “Dancing With Myself.”

Now that’s a  music video. zombies and everything. wow.
